Hi,
Just purchased a single fam w/ 3 acre hilly lot; 2 wooded/brush and 1 grass. 1/2 of the property is at various 20-45 degree grades.
Looking to cut and maintain grass, move and haul rock/stone/dirt, snow removal on 200' sloping driveway, cut brush, etc etc.
Besides adding more life insurance any ideas on the type of tractor I should get? I am leaning towards the JD 2210.
Thanks,
Mike

I think your pucker factor will kick in at any slope much above 25-30 degrees. If you have a lot of work to do on slopes IMHO you should be looking at machines that are designed for work on slopes, maybe a tracked machine. Sorry, I don't have one to recommend but maybe someone will chime in here. ....

Those steep of slopes are pretty scary, I would'nt recommend any type of conventional wheeled tractor for such dutys. As mentioned above there may be specialty equipment meant for that type of work that I'm not aware of. Perhaps a bit of fencing and some sheep or goats may be your lowest cost and safest solution. Enjoy your day. Frank. ....

On those steep slopes, I'd suggest getting in touch with nature and letting them stay natural. Use whatever excuse you want be it supporting nature, a one man conservation effort, saving the gray spotted home owner...
Years ago, my old man would have sent me on the slopes with safety glasses and a weedeater. "What do I need an expensive mower for when I have a teenage son?" ....

I think the 2210 is just not going to give you the weight and umph for covering all of the tasks you have in mind. The brush cutting and snow blowing will put the 2210 at or perhaps beyond its limits. I would suggest the 4115 or if the budget will not support that; the 4110. I cut very similar slopes with my 4410 but I use the MMM and remove the FEL and run up the slope perpendicular, nose first and back down. It can be safely done but do it very slowly and carefully. To brush cutting with any degree of effectiveness, especially in heavier stuff, will take some pto hp that the 2210 may or may not be able to handle. The 2210 will work but you will have to use it within its limitations. ....

That sounds a bit like my place in spots. I don’t know the degree of the slope yet but, if I had a clock and a straight line it would be 10 and 4 / 11 and 5.
I do that with my JD 790 and I keep the FEL on, 4wd, and Lock the differential. Straight up and down. Go slow and I don’t go on it if the grass is wet or it has rained the day before, otherwise its like sledding in July!!..
Yikes!! LOL

I just bought a 2210 for similar needs on my 5 acres. It's been everything I expected. The FEL works great, and I've got a box blade for cutting/grooming trails in the woods. What I really like is the size of the unit for turning around trees, etc.
Guys on the this site, when I was looking to buy, suggested that the 2210 would be better on slopes due it's smaller wheels (lower) - they were right. While I agree with others that 45 degree slopes are best left to goats and sheep, my 2210 handles my more modest terrain well. Haven't got the snowthrower yet (it will be my wife's Christmas Present!) and my tiller is on order (her Birthday gift from me!).
That's my 2 cents worth. ....

bmeyer,
I agree. The 2210 is everything I had hoped it would be. True the true CUT's are more machines, but for what my needs are, it's more than capable. As for the snowblowing, though I haven't yet used the 2210. I prev. used a 425 with a 46" blower to do 10,500+ s.f. for 10 yrs with no problem. I can't see how the 2210 will be a problem.
